I am not disabled. I am in fact, enabled.

Daniel1Phoenix
As some of my readers may well know I am legally blind.

When I say legally blind, that means that I am blind by the legal standards set by my country.

I have Ah condition called rp, which is short for retinitis, pigmentosis. i also have another genetic disease that causes macular, degeneration.

I have seen many optometrists and ophthalmologists, but there is no cure for my condition.

I am not completely blind, though. I do have a very small amount of peripheral vision around the edges of my field of vision.

When you put your face close to a TV screen, you can see all the individual pixels of color that make up the image. That is something like what I see only 10 billion times more dots of light and color.

There are also constantly flashing pulsing, moving on white lights and yellow lights moving across my field of vision.

I was born with R, p, but in my early 30s, I had cataracts, and had surgery, and I had lens implants put into my eyes

Unfortunately, shortly after that operation, a second genetic disposition, it brought itself forward, and I lost my center vision. I can no longer see even my hand right in front of my face. It is just a Gray nothingness filled with dotted lights and moving colors.

That being said, I wish to implore you to understand that even though I may have that vision problems, I am not disabled. In fact, I am enabled

Over the years and throughout my life, I have learned to pay attention to my other senses. My hearing is sharp. My sense of smell, okay, heightened my sense of space and time. Heightened.

For example, I once had someone drive me around in their car, trying to get me lost, and I always knew exactly where we were every time she stopped and said, okay, where are we now because I can tell which directions? I’m moving east-west, north or south. I can feel the grade of the land whether going uphills, or down Very easily with no effort.

I can usually tell what sort of item was dropped and hit the floor even when it’s completely out of sight. And I should have no idea what it was.

I can tell whether it’s a dime or a quarter or a loony or a Tuni, if it were money, for example, immediately just by the sound of it.

My sense of smell is so heightened that I can even tell when it is a woman’s time of month. Just by being in the room with them and uh I can. Yeah, tell who needs to wash and who doesn’t? I can tell what foods are being cooked. What meat is cooked? And as a matter of fact, I am told I am an excellent cook.

My sense of touch, just heightened as well. I can tell if an item is a metal, a crystal. I can tell real gold just by touching it to my mouth or my lips. I can tell silver the same way also, by the ring it makes when it hits a surface

I almost always know what time it is within just a few minutes of the actual time. No matter where I am, no matter what time of day. It is

And of course, other than the 5 normal senses that we all have, we also all have a sixth sense, an extra sense one that gimsas, a pitted feeling deep within our stomach or tightens our chest or makes our hair stand up on end.

Sometimes there is even a ringing in my ears, and I have been known to guess who was about to call my phone or who was about to show up at my door even without previous knowledge of such

So I am completely confident, and I entirely trust myself. I usually do not second-guess anything that I think I know and at times that has made me seem narcissistic to others who do not understand.

Almost like a day Walker or an anti vampire. I see better under sunlight and false light. Creates a distortion that stops me from being able to see color but I am not color blind.

My eyes automatically adjust to the brightest light source available and anything less lit. Becomes almost invisible to me with my limited vision.

When moving around in the public, I use my ears more than anything. I echolocate, I can hear which cars are where usually on the road? What way they’re traveling how fast they are going. I can tell whether people are close to me at nighttime. I can even hear somebody’s footsteps. 3 blocks away.

I have been told I am as blind as a bat. Many times throughout my life, it used to upset me. Now I chuckle, because indeed, I use something like sonar, just like a bat does, and you can’t trick me.

Like the Daredevil comic book character, I can even tell when somebody is lying to me by the heartbeat that I hear and the temperature that I feel because someone who is lying invariably. Their heart beats faster and their temperature rises. And I am sensitive enough to be able to feel even that minute change

So I am absolutely not disabled.

I am competent, strong, mature, wise aware, and very much enabled.

I am a father and I put my heart and soul into that I have worked all over the place in all different fields. I even had my forklift license and my driver’s permit. When I was younger

I even achieved a mark of 93% in flight school. I am computer literate, and I have decided to use many of the devices that have been created in our modern times to help me out.

I have a talking smartphone, and I have a white cane which I rarely use only when I’m going somewhere that I’m not familiar.

I have studied and watched martial arts. I understand the inner workings of my body. I am a fast healer, and I am a calm man, usually very much in control of my emotions.

There is a very small amount of things that I cannot do, but I have learned how to allow others to aid or assist me. And even though that used to bother me now, I am grateful to be able to put a little less effort into getting around, sometimes.

Just because a person has a disability does not mean that they are not competent. And that is a problem that many people face

When do you automatically judge somebody based on at perceived disability like hearing loss or sight loss? It is called ableism. it is akin to racism or sexism.

And as someone who has experienced this numerous times throughout my life, I am an advocate for equality and tranquility.

Once I accepted the gifts that I have been given, I entered onto a pathway to teach others, to show others, to help others and to raise up the level of awareness of this planet Earth.

I am not a medium or a channel, but I do hear the voices around me sometimes, and I do. Trust what they are saying. If they come from a good feeling

So even though I may never meet you in person, I do hope that you enjoy my stories. My poems, my songs and my music, and I hope that they inspire you to treat others equally always.

In fact, many people who meet me do not even realize that I am blind and that is how capable I have become in the 50 years of my life. So far.

So with love out to everyone I wish to thank you for me. Taking part in this journey with me. I wish to thank you and show gratitude for you’re reading my stories.

Love always
